Hair Flow
A study of hair movement, as simulated forces pass through it. Strands and clumps affected by a grid of velocity vectors with turbulence.
Goal was also to achieve simulated clumps and volume preservation.
Technical
Built using Houdini’s hair and grooming system, driven by layered wind fields and directional turbulence.
Custom forces were art-directed to create controlled breakup, lift, and flow. Futuristic HUD and glitch elements were composited to visualize force, direction, and intensity.
Approach
Swiftly went on to image-making after the simulations. It had to be clear that the hair wasn’t moving randomly, but with control and intent.
By exposing the “invisible” forces through HUD graphics, it highlights the motion and makes it clearly intentional.
